Equity and Women: A study of Islamic Social and Moral Principles

Abstract

Human life is the name of a unity that is characterized by both differences in thought and social collectiveness. This unity has been divided by humans into various parts through their will, choice, and freedom of thought and action. As a result, human social life has, in some respects, become easier, but in other instances, more complex and challenging. Islam provides principles for maintaining unity in human social life, which are established under the concept of equality, ensuring that humans live in harmony with their nature and eliminating human division, evil, and disorder in society. In this way, humans can transcend all distinctions and succeed in establishing a peaceful, welfare-based, ideal society. This article discusses two aspects of the Islamic concept of equality: first, the social principles of equality, which are generally based on the culture and civilization of any religion. The foundation of Islamic social principles lies in the teachings of the Qurʾān and Sunnah. The following social principles are mentioned in the Qurʾān and Ḥaadīṯh: respect for humanity, strengthening the family system, establishment of Islamic brotherhood, serving humanity, freedom of thought and expression, etc. The second aspect is the moral principles of equality, which are the distinguishing characteristics of Muslims. Islamic moral principles include equality in respect and honor, equality in social interaction, equality in love and affection, etc. By adhering to these, a prosperous society can be established.
