Abstract
Islam has extended its rights for women to the extent which is unparalleled in other religions or in any of the world's constitutions.That is why, even after the golden era of prophet, every effort has been made to provide legitimate family and legal protection or social rights to women with respect and dignity. During the Ottoman Caliphate, which lasted for 600 years, the empire prolonged to Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Although women's rights have been more or less in quality and style but there is no example of deprivation or oppression. Women's physical and mental training equipment has been available all the time.Women have also given expertise of military training or first aid and the control of textile factories, carpet weaving, sewing, embroidery and pottery in hands of women are a testament to their importance in society. Educational institutions for women were established late however respect was also given to a non-muslim woman in society. Keeping the women in Hijab, separate baths, prohibition of unauthorized entry into homes and outdoor activities without a mahram or servant were high measures for the protection of women. Men were used to avoid abuses such as alcoholism, adultery and polygamy to save their wives from mental, physical, and intellectual anxieties. The same kind of food was eaten by Queen and Maids for showing mercy upon maids. There was no rigidity in servant’s duties even though their condition was somewhat better than that of Western servants. This article is emphasis on women status and their rights in Ottoman Empire.
