Abstract

Women entrepreneurship and participation in various fields and profession has been very important and impactful aspect of the Islamic history. Women have been granted a very significant status in the Islamic society and there are multiple ways through which this status and role has been discussed and highlighted. This research aims to provide some glimpses of early women participation as entrepreneurship and craftsman in Islam. While doing so an attempt will be made to highlight the various professions and craftsmanship and entrepreneur skills of the ummahat al mu’minin. The methodology applied in this research is based on thematic hadith methodology and comprises of firstly collecting all the narratives about the skills and professions that Ummahat and the analyzing and arranging them under the topic. It thus underscores their participation in various fields like trade, medicine, tannery, textile and leather crafts. Finally it concludes that these contributions of Ummahat al mu’ minin and the sahabiyyat may Allah be pleased with them and their participation in various professions needs to be emphasized and celebrated not only as their contributed to the welfare of the Muslim society at their time but as role models and guides for the Muslim women through all ages to follow.
