Islam presents a comprehensive code of life in each domain that are experienced by human beings in normal life cycle. It has detailed provisions for marital life too. Among other entitlements and obligation, It has suggested ways and options available to both spouses for dissolution of marriage. It is called ‘divorce’ when invoked by the male spouse and khu’l (Khula) otherwise. It may also be pertinent to mention that dissolution of marriage is themost ‘disliked’ deed before theAllah Almighty among the ‘halal’ things and therefore shariah has advised to adopt this when all means of settlements between the spouses are exhausted. Khul’(Khula) is invoked by a woman on certain discrete grounds. There are four conditions for Khul’(Khula). The most important one is payment by women to her spouse in order to dissolve the marriage. The most prevalent reasons for women taking Khul’ (Khula) are suspicions among the spouses, negative role of in-laws, cheating on wife, financial troubles etc. The repercussions of Khul’(Khula) are also examined in detail. The recommendations are then suggested in the light of detailed study.
