Abstract

Marriage (nikah) in Islam is a sacred covenant rooted in divine guidance and moral responsibility, designed to foster love, harmony, and spiritual fulfillment between spouses. However, like all human relationships, conjugal bonds can experience moments of unity (coincidence) as well as divergence (separation), each governed by specific principles outlined in Islamic Shariah. This analytical study delves into the foundational elements that contribute to both the cohesion and dissolution of marital relationships, examining them in light of Shariah guidelines. The concept of coincidence (ittifaq) in marital life refers to emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual harmony between spouses. Islam encourages this coincidence through mutual rights and responsibilities, compassion, consultation, and conflict resolution mechanisms such as arbitration. The Qur’an emphasizes that spouses are garments for one another, symbolizing intimacy, protection, and mutual dependence. This study identifies key elements that promote marital coincidence: sincerity of intention, communication, mutual respect, sexual fulfillment, financial responsibility, and religious compatibility.
