Abstract

Islam is a comprehensive and universal religion that encompasses all aspects of human life. It provides not only spiritual and moral guidance but also guarantees complete social and economic rights. Among these fundamental rights, the concept of women’s economic autonomy holds particular significance, as women constitute half of the foundation of any society. Without their economic empowerment, sustainable development cannot be achieved. Islam grants women not only a high spiritual and moral status but also full economic independence and dignity. Women in Islam have the right to own property, make financial decisions independently, and participate in economic activities. The lives of the Mothers of the Believers and female Companions during the Prophetic era serve as practical examples of women actively engaging in trade, labor, and investment. Moreover, Islam establishes legal frameworks such as inheritance, dower (mahr), maintenance, and ownership rights to protect women’s financial autonomy. In the modern era, women’s economic empowerment has become a central theme in global development discourse; however, in many Muslim societies, these rights are not fully realized in practice. This study critically analyzes the economic rights granted to women in Islam, their legal status, and explores ways for Muslim societies to implement these teachings effectively, enabling women to contribute with dignity to socio-economic development.
